Dealer wants 1080 to replace breather hoses, what are they?

hello
My 2007 boxster is curently at the dealer, I had it towed there, they are replacing the air/oil separator. They also claim that there are 3 leads that need to be fixed, 6k in total repairs.
I told them to just fix the A/O separator and I would drive it home and work on it myself or have local guys work on it. So now I get a text : unfortunately 2 breather hoses came apart because they were quite brittle. $1030 plut tax to replace.
I dont know what breather hoses are or what they do, but are the needed for the car to be drivable? Can I drive 1/2 hour home then have my mechanic replace those hoses too when they work on the leaks?

Thanks!

My specific knowledge of 07 is nonexistant. On my 01, when I replaced the motor, I had to replace the oil filler pipe and the dipstick pipe because they were brittle enough to break. There was a vac. line between the throttle body and the aos. It cracked/broke, too.

Theres a possibility that your motor may spew oil, or not run too well because of vacuum leak. I'd watch the oil pressure and the engine temp closely, but if it were my $25000 car I'd probably just have it towed to your buddies shop and not chance it.

I expect that the breather hoses are the ones in the "related parts" tab of this: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/996-107-026-01-M100&SuperCat=Y&SVSVSI=1060.htm#tab1

Edit: Or maybe the longer hoses pictured here:

I agree with Brian. It would be risky to drive it. Best to have it towed to another shop.

Your looking at about $300-$400 dollars of parts to replace the AOS and the 2 hoses. I've replaced them on a 2003 they are difficult to reach and require removal of part of the intake manifold.

A few years ago, I replaced both of these hoses on my '07 CS because they were cracked, the hose #4 on the previous message was difficult because the access to it, however didn't have to remove the intake plennum.

I removed the engine cover behind the seats and managed to squeeze the fitting that connects the hose to the valve on top of the engine, it is tight but definitely doable, also the OEM accordion hose is not too expensive.

You will need some patience and some cursing, but should expect to spend a couple hundred dollars (max) for the hose nothing near the $1k +

Good luck!
