Clutch Question
2001 986 S 100K miles
My clutch has starred to shudder a little when i move from a standing stop, is this an indication my clutch is end of life? No slippage, just a shudder that wasn't there before. Planning to change it in a month so I am hoping I have a little life left is this is the case. Anyone want to weigh in? |
That's what mine started doing a couple weeks before the clutch gave out.

Should I replace the pressure plate also? any advice you care to share on on other stuff? |
Most clutch kits come with the pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. The Sachs kit I bought from Vertex Auto was $295 shipped and also included the spline grease and alignment tool.
Definitely do the RMS and check the flywheel. It's a fun job. I thoroughly enjoyed it ;) https://scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net...35&oe=5C73C7BC |
Better than 50% chance that you should replace the flywheel as well
stay with the dual mass flywheel and not a lightweight flywheel |

The flywheel is used to balance the engine .it is not your typical flywheel it is a two piece assembly that is spring loaded against the two parts .
|
The stock flywheel is a dual mass flywheel, and dual mass flywheels shouldn't be re-surfaced. Just replace it while you've got it all apart.

Its a dual-mass flywheel with some "action" to it, resurfacing might restore the wear surface, but that shuddering could be my flywheel giving extra, and now that I think about it, that is EXACTLY what it feels like. This video set me straight: https://youtu.be/c-V7IYlD1Zg |
