Trunk pops open when operating top

Hello all. My 986 developed a weird quirk. Whenever the top is raised or lowered, the rear trunk pops open. It looks like it has to do with the tonneau cover latch. With the cover up for service position, if I manually press the latch with my finger the trunk pops open. But of course could be a short or bad ground somewhere else.

If it helps, there are a few small electrical gremlins with my car but this one I think is isolated because it developed after the other ones. The trunk doesn't open with the remote (but obviously the electric latch is working). Also, the key fob will lock the car and the lights flash but the alarm doesn't chirp. Any ideas?

Alarm chirp only happens when a latching item isn’t secured.

Over a year later and this is still happening. Any ideas?
