manual trans elec con

1998 Boxster base 5 speed. What is the purpose of the second electrical connection on the left side closest to the hub ? In this picture caped off with yellow.

In the 986 PET, it’s part #012-409-191-C “sensor without function”. In the VW/Audi application it’s a speed sensor.
