Trunk Gas Struts
Are the gas struts the same for the front and rear trunks on an 03 Box. ? Everyone sells rear struts but I can't find front struts for sale.

Different I think, i got both on Amazon for pretty decent.

It's easy to find any part via part number: https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf
Front Strut PN: 996 511 551 01 Rear Strut PN: 986 512 551 01 So they aren't the same, fronts look to be about $15/each aftermarket, or $25/each for Stabilus which is the OEM supplier. |
Thanks Rick, I am off and running !

Be careful when you remove the retaining clips. I nearly shot one clean across the garage when I did my fronts. When I do the backs I'll probably wrap a rag 95 % around it before I pop it off.

But The Stabilus, the cheap ones don't last and you'll end up spending 2x the $$ buying them again in a year.......at least that's what I found....or as my favorite quote around here goes, "Ask me how I know".......

I ordered a pair from an ebay supplier who delivers from Sydney AU.. $35 pair including postage and they have 3 years warranty. This supplier says on their store site that they moved from the states in 2003 to enjoy the Australian lifestyle.
A local business quoted $35 per strut to re gass plus a $55 call out fee. A friend had the four re gassed on his Cayman from another guy and paid about $100 for the four.. |
New struts arrived today. Took 10 minutes to fit. Head should be safe for a while now.
