2006 Cayman s?

Hi all. I looked at a Cayman S today. Nice car. I would like to solicit opinions on this model. I believe it has a dual row IMS. 42000 miles. Headlights need refinishing. Clean otherwise. Miss-matched front and rear tires. 19 inch wheels. Car drove well, but the shifter seemed a little sloppy compared to my 04 base Boxster. Lots of power. The ask is $24.5K. New suede headliner. Any comments would be welcome. If I buy my 04 Boxster would be for sale on Long Island, NY. New engine and clutch replaced 10,000 miles ago by PCNA after an IMS failure. Guards Red, black leather interior. Thanks. Mitch.

2006 single row bearing larger diameter that can not be replaced without splitting the block.

As jsceach says, it has the Gen III IMS which cannot be replaced w/o splitting the engine block, but has a <1% chance of failure. Oil change interval tends to influence IMS longevity.

Find out how long ago the water pump was replaced. They last anywhere from 2-6 (or sometimes longer) yrs. Also find out about plugs & coils. They're at the proper mileage to be changed, but age-wise should have been changed a long time ago. A pair of 19" tires will run approx. $350-500, depending on the brand you're matching to. Does it come with 2 keys? If not, it will be around $400 to have one cut and programmed.

I currently own 2 987.1Ss and owned a third. They have been 3 of the most dependable cars I've owned. My 1st Porsche, an 01 Boxster S, was not. I mention the items above so you know what to look for and can bargain accordingly. The asking price is in the ballpark for the mileage and if it's in good condition.

For $25K you could probably find a Base 2009 or later car which is a big leap in reliability and very similar in performance. That is what I would/did do.

I think he's talking about his 04 Box.

The owner did have a CEL, and replaced the coil pack. I drive about 3000 miles a year in the Boxster because I have 2 other cars. I also autocross. Any shifter problems?
