Springs

I was thinking...

Is it necessary to remove a bunch of parts to install springs? Since both ends of the springare "open"... couldn't you jack up the car... compress the existing spring... and "twist" it out then compressing the new spring and "twisting" it on... lower the car... done?

Thanks.

Hello Starter,

I tried a couple of times before and I was was not able to do it..

In my case there was not enough room between the struts and the body for the spring compressors (tried two different ones) with the same result.

Also, since I didn't wanted to risk tearing the rubber boot on the ball joint, removed instead the bolt that connects the control arms to the subframe, figuring that you will have to align the car afterwards anyway... this would allow you to swing the bottom of the complete assembly (strut, brake, etc.) so the top of the strut clears the fender.

If you go this route, remember to have something to support the wheel hub as can be heavy with the weight of the rotor and caliper.

Good luck!
