Where do I buy these mystery 986 headlights?

I picked up this Porsche book that was published last year (2017), and when I turned to the 1997 Boxster page it has headlights I've never seen before! Are they European delivery, custom made, or just Porsche trying to re-write history knowing their original ones are just so plain awful? Unfortunately, the photo itself has no photo credit because I'm assuming the publisher (vmb) must have just purchased the rights.

Thanks for any info. as these look great IMHO.

Ya know....I think the "Rendering" credit on the cover means this is just a computer generated model. And I'm guessing Marco hates the originals just like everyone else so he "fixed" it in his 3D model..lol.

What do you guys think?

There’s nothing genuine in that picture.
Can you say... PhotoShop?

That picture is wacky! Look at the ride height! :D

That's the first thing I thought. Bumper, windshield, wheels.

It’s a gorgeous design, but as a 3D rendering expert? I look at the headlights, I do see strong signs of compositing in Photoshop. But that would be hell to model in 3D for just a picture.

The geometry is intricate with lots of curves. And, reflective surfaces required specialized Maya/Max plugins back where the book was written. I see a several day job.

But with Photoshop, you could composite that in an hour.

Regardless of the method (Photoshop, etc), I think we can all agree that it's just an artistic rendering...done by an artist who's only seen a picture of a 986. ;)

Or perhaps the book wasn't approved by Porsche, so subtle changes had to be made...at least it's not called "PORCSHE-The Legendary Models".

And and note the 356 width rally tread tires as well... that has to be the worse rendering of a Boxster ever. Not even close to the prototype or any other for that matter.

Looks like a model car, there’s separation between windshield and beam, ride height is off with a fake shadow. Reminds me of building model cars as a kid...
