“R14 Ball Seat Bolt“ Question

Hi all,

I just ordered a set of 4 x 15mm spacers for my 1999 base with 17” silver OEM rims. Got them today but it looks like the bolts are smaller where they make contact with the rims, before the thread start, compared to the original. I re-read the description and it says “Wheels must be compatible with R14 Ball Seat Bolt”. I am not certain if OEM 17inch rim’s are compatible. From my search here, I think so, but it’s inconclusive so I felt it prudent to ask the experts. Are they?

Also, the bolts are black, not silver like on the picture. I was going to return them just because of them being silver but I read that some members here actually like the looks of black bolts on the silver rims as the OEM bolts get rusted and looks get destroyed quickly. Thoughts ?

Thanks

Here is what I purchase.

I checked and they are supposed to be hub centric.

I bought ECS tuning spacers and bolts. Both black and fit perfect. They are more than twice the price you paid though. I used their black regular length bolts before I got the spacer and longer bolt combo. After 4 or 5 years the black bolts still looked great. I much prefer the black bolts over the rusty looking silver ones. I guess you could just paint the bolts, but I doubt they would hold up as well.

Thanks for the reply. This answers my second question.

Anyone knows if my OEM 17” are “R14 ball seat bolts” compatible? Their “ball seats” look smaller then the OEM’s...

Thank you

Porsche is 14mm radius ball seat, but i suppose it is possible your lug bolt brand have less contact area due to being smaller around?

There is,a thread on here somewhere that explains why not to use 1 piece lug nuts instead of the oem 2 piece design, I'll try and find it as i don't recall why.

Have you taken off one of your oem lug bolts to compare?

all factory 986 996 wheels are r14 ball

if you got what the description states....you're good to go
hopefully you didn't get r12's as you stated you got black lug bolts instead of the silver

Geetee

I’ll ask the vendor the question but are all black bolts R12? It’s seem this is what you are alluding to. Thanks!
