Start up

My recently-acquired 1999 Boxster is pretty loud on cold start up. I have an E39 540i which is loud for a few seconds as well until the cam tensioner builds pressure. Is this the same thing in the Porsche? It only has 54k miles and seems to have been very well-maintained.
Glad to have found all of you here!
Thanks,

John

The boxster have some lifter noise on start up, and there is another pump that makes some noise as well. The orientation of the cylenders promots some of the oil to leak down. Other thing you may notice a little smoke if its been sitting awhile as the oil can collect up in the cylinders, but should be only for a minute or 2 if keeps smoking then another issue.
