50% Price Drop on M96 Short Blocks from Porsche?

According to the latest edition of Total 911 Magazine, Porsche has dropped the price of M96 short blocks by about 50% to 3500£ - that’s about $4500 US. Any word on whether that’s happening on this side of the Atlantic? That would be a game changer not only for keeping 986 and 996 Porsches on the road but also for the potential for 3.6 conversions at a sane price.

Nice find......please keep us informed! Is there contact information available?

CdnRD 09-06-2018 04:00 PM

There was no contact info, just this:

“M96 short engines reduced
Porsche has reduced the short engine price of its M96-generation flat six. Now available for £3500 from Porsche - a reduction of around 50 percent - this latest development should weaken the fears of 996 owners who may be worried about total failure of their M96 rendering their cars uneconomical to fix, and may inspire others to make a purchase.”

More info is needed, please.
I have searched the internet and not found much on this subject.
Has anyone else found any further info on this?
thanks

If my engine wasn't already in the process of being rebuilt I would call a Porsche dealer and inquire. My engine failed after the RND sale cleared out all their rebuilt engine inventory and the rebuild was authorized before this was announced. Oh well.

I contacted the Editor at Total 911 to ask him about the article and received a very helpful response (once again confirming my experience that Porsche people are awesome!). He said their report was based on their observations of the change in prices from Porsche Classic in the UK. Their observations are that Porsche Classic prices fluctuate over time, for example pre-impact 911 bumper skins have tripled in the past year! His suggestion was to check with the local dealer. My thoughts are that if the local price hasn’t dropped, ordering one from the UK might be an option.
