AOS change

Started getting some smoke at start up that I never had and according to this fórum and the test they recommend, opening the oil filler it looks like I have to change my AOS. I got the new one the other day and it doesn't look like there is anything that can go wrong with it. How does it fail?

Theres a few threads where it's been documented how. Plastic diaphragm cracks and allows too much vacuum. You can find them if you search.

Thanks, I was just curious as it looks like a rather fool proof piece of plastic.

Plastic being the keyword. As I recall theres a lot of vacuum on that plastic and when it fails or cracks you have your issue. There is a really expensive racing aos made of metal that is built to withstand a lot more torture.
