Water Pump project started finally....questions on tensioners and idler pullys

I have my OEM pump ready, have the covers off and ready to start draining coolant tomorrow. I would like to clean and possibly lube the tensioners and idlers before reinstallation of my new belt and pump. I have read somewhere that one of these broke easily when turned in the wrong direction ?? andy help would be greatly appreciated.. I plan on using synthetic axle grease if I can get the cover off and back on tight....anyone else use anything different ??

THanks
In Advance

Dwight

If they spin freely and aren’t noisy, leave ‘em alone.

Agreed. If you want to refresh/refurb while you are there, just replace them, but if they are smooth and quiet I would leave them alone. It's not terribly hard to access them at another time should the need arise.

One thing leads to another....always

AFter removing the covers I found a fair amount of oil on the passengers side of the engine, might as well replace the original OAS (got parts on order , thanks Pelican ). My question is how to clean the oil off without removing the protective wax on the engine...don't want to get to harsh with the cleaning.
