I had mine installed a couple of months back. Muuuch better than stock muffler. Would love even more sound though—might switch to 200 cell cat midpipes.

Got to ask: I am very familiar with the Rennline tie bar and hold downs, but what is the red thing at the rear of the triangular plate?

What I am afraid of is that is some sort of jacking point, which is nuts because it is under a non structural stamped sheet metal aluminum bracket that you can easily bend with your hands...…………….

Update: That is exactly what it is, sold by Fabspeed for the 981 cars (2013-2016), which have a different bracket above it that is considerably stronger than the one on a 986...……...

Mods.....

......Yes. You are correct, it IS nuts.

You REALLY don’t want to jack up at that point.

But that center red thing is, indeed, a jack point.

I bought and installed it for two reasons—First, it makes for fun conversations like this one when folks spot it, and Second, if I am ever in a pinch and for some reason I can’t access the jack points I should use, this spot is theoretically useable.

I travel cross-country a great deal, and I have been stranded many times and every once in awhile I have to let some tow truck driver jack the car up without me around. I figured if they decide to jack her up at that spot, I maight as well provide a pad.

Again, it’s a last resort jack point.

Mostly for the bling.

Hopefully I will get the brombacher sound mounted next week.
Trackday coming up in Sweden next Saturday.
So I will have some experience after that that I may share.....
Happy weekend to all boxsters out there!

I am about to pull trigger on muffler order what else did you order with it? Do need to order the bracket or any other bits?

10/10ths 07-27-2018 03:26 PM

Brackets, et al......

.....They offer the clamps and brackets, it depends on the health of your current parts, I ordered them and ended up using them just because I had them, so why not?

Jack Point info.....

......as far as that rear, center jack point-----The Bentley Manual says that you CAN use that spot as a jack point.

Now, I personally do NOT use it, and I would NOT encourage others to use it.

BUT.......

No Bueno Dude. Have a look at the picture you posted and the one in the Bently manual. Three things stand out. First the spindly aluminum bracket in your pic is not the sturdy black crossmember in the Bently. Second is the cable restraintyou see in the Bently, is at the other end of the triangular aluminum pan piece mounted into that nice sturdy crossmember. Third id the engine is not behind that bracket ala a 911.That jack point indicated in the Bently is as stated near the "center" of the car. However like in the movie Field of dreams "if you supply a jack point they will use it, or something like that.
