Can I switch airbag module without reprogramming?

I have a rebodied car. The new bodyshell is 1998 but the original shell was 1997. Some 1997 cars did not have side airbags. I would like to get one of those modules and ditch the door airbags because I have installed a roll-cage. I need to keep the front airbags to be street legal. Does anyone know if changing module is possible?

It needs to be coded to the car.

Thanks.
Does that mean going to a Porsche dealer?
Does this imply that the module itself can be recode to only use the front airbags, or is it a different module. From what I understand it is the latter, but this is not a common topic so I haven't found much info on going from the later to the earlier module.

At a minimum, you need access to either a PST II or PIWIS system.
