Foam drip tray replacement

How difficult is it to replace foam drip trays?

I can't remember the details -- but I think you do have to remove the convertible top transmissions, but overall, not that hard.

If you are replacing the top -- you have to be real careful with the "arms", they are just dying to poke a hole into your drip trays -- that's how I did mine in.

However, I think you can do one tray at a time without completely removing the top.

The local dealer quoted me 1200 to replace the trays. They said the top has to be removed and the trays were 130 each.

How bad is your tray? Can't you fix it with waterproofing tape and done with it?

If you're inclined to consider replacing the trays yourself, understand that removing the top may sound daunting but in fact, will take you less than an hour. There are lots of good instructions online but overall, you are looking at putting your top in the service position, disconnecting the arms and undoing three bolts and one or two screws from each side. The whole top will lift out of place.

I would check with Sunset or Suncoast first -- It's been ~8 years -- but I remember them being ~$20.

Just looked up Sonnen they want $140 each -- wow -- I don't remember them being that pricey.

That's insane! Any competent porsche mechanic can replace both in an hour
