Cold starting and pulling off from stop. 986 1998 manual

We are in Winter here in NZ and temps are around the 4-12 deg C. The car really has to be idled for 3-4 minutes before is is even drive-able. The car is new to me and from when I bought it, it has always been hard to pull off. Need 2000+ rpm to get enough torque to move the car. I though that that was just the way it was.

Now I'm thinking that maybe the fuel/air ratio is a bit lean on small throttle openings and this is more obvious when cold and its need a richer mixture.

Any suggestions? Stab in the dark, airflow meter need a minor adjustment for off throttle, temperature probe somewhere not working correctly?

Had similar issues years ago and it turned out to be a faulty MAS...I was sometimes getting 1128 and 1130 codes as well and the car ran rough when cold and would backfire sometimes.

have you tried cleaning the throttle body and idle control valve? pretty easy job and can't hurt, one of those things that may not have been done in 20 years (pretty sure mine wasn't when I did it)...

I couldn't get the throttle cable clip out of mine, so instead of mangling it I just rotated the body upwards and cleaned it in place.
