Navigation dvd compatibility

I have a 2000 S. Can I use any year nav dvd from porsche? I would like the most recent year that will work with my oem nav system.

Anyone have one for sale? Or should I just ebay it?

thanks,
Mike

Correct, the system should update with the newer DVD.

Are the pre-2003 units DVD based or CD based?

Yours is cd based and you have to use the discs for your specific PCM model. If yours is stock with the car it would be PCM1. Sorry to inform you that those cd's haven't been updated in years, and are barely worth using. If you really want them, look for them on eBay.I have a PCM2 in an 04 and the navigation is poor at best. They haven't issued updated cd's for it for years either.

That is not correct; there are multiple versions of the PCM navigation system, and each uses a specific format disk which is not interchangeable. Early systems have not been updated for several years now.

Nearly all OEM's are guilty of this nonsense, which simply drives buyers to not want the factory system as the aftermarket systems are totally updateable, usually for free.

I had planned to update my car with an OEM system in order to maintain the look of the interior. After checking into it I decided I would experience better functionality at a lower price with an after market system. I think it looks pretty good in the car too. Here's some information on the installation: http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/51283-does-anyone-know-vss-wire-02-bose.html

Good luck with the option you choose.

Mine is a PCM1, I removed the CD player for the space to install a storage bin, the rest of the PCM functionality still works
