Spindle/hub differences?

I had a question. Are the spindle/hubs on the 2.5 the same as the 3.2?

The rears are definitely different, the fronts my be the same.

Not the same.

5-speed (2.5L) axle in 2000 S (3.2L) hub:

5-speed axle is shorter, but fits in the hub.

Transmission end. 5-speed vs 6 speed stub (2000 S on left 5-speed on right):

The axle mount to the transmission is different diameter and design.

I ask because I need one for some prototype fab work. And rather than tear mine down, I know my local junk yard has one that rolled and could rip one off of it. I do need mainly the front Spindle and Hub.

I think the fronts are the same on the 3.2/2.7 and maybe the 2.5, I bet Woody would know.

I bet he would too. I should text him. IDK why I didn't think of that.

As far as I know all 986 and 996 use the same front. The rear 2.5 and 2.7 are the same but the S has much beefier rear pieces. The stub that the nut screws onto is the same size though. You can put a base axle on a S carrier but you can't put a S axle on a base carrier without some machining of the base carrier

I always wondered if the rear S pieces could be used on the front and allow the bigger wheel bearings to be used. Just idle thoughts ;)

I know of someone in the racing world that was going to attempt that. They must have ran into a problem as they never used it on their car. I always mean to ask them what happen but forget to when I see them.

I honestly hate that 01S+ Bearing. Because I was unaware it is like a special order only part and only select places sell it, and they were all on backorder... So took me a month from tearing down my car, to getting it back on the road. Was the most expensive bearing on the planet since I had to rent a car for almost a month!
