Trunk release question...

Any time I try to use the keyfob remote to open the rear trunk after the 99 boxster has sat for a couple of days, it will not open. I have to use the latch in the door sill. After I drive for a couple miles (say to the grocery) the keyfob remote will now work. Other than this funky quirk everything seems fine, the car always starts right up runn great no issues whatsoever. Any ideas whats up with this???

Hi,

TADTS (They All Do That Sir...). What you are experiencing is the Alarm/Remote Locking function has partially shutdown. This occurs if the system is not activated by KeyFob for approximately 120 hrs. in order to preserve the Battery.

In order for the KeyFob to work, there has to be a receiver circuit inside the Car's Alarm system to Listen for the KeyFob signal. This circuitry draws power which would be unecessary if the car were infrequently driven and put an undue burden on the car's battery. So after 120 hrs. (approx.), the car shuts this circuitry Off and it remains Off until the key itself is once used to unlock the car or to start it. Then, the cycle starts all over again. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
