‘97 986 Won’t start after theft of radio
Have a ‘97 Boxster that was broken into and the radio was stolen. They cut the wires and left a mess. Looks like they may have attempted to try and start the car with a screwdriver.
Now the car won’t start. WON’T turn over. (Sorry...posted incorrect info before) Could the theft attempt activated the immobilizer and if so, what needs to be done to get the car off of lock down mode? |
Typically when the immobilizer is activated, the engine won't turn over (at all).

People are still stealing car stereos? Seems that went away with them being a dime a dozen. Sorry to hear. Hope you get it figured out.

Like Tom said, it wouldn't turn over if the immobilizer was activated. Did they try hot wiring the ignition? Stereo wires shouldn't effect it starting.

Is the tach needle bouncing while cranking?
Check the alarm system for codes. The radio mount has a switch that activates the alarm when the radio is removed. |
Hey all....correction. It is a ‘97 Boxster and it is a car that I purchased recently, from the owner for $700. He gave me some incorrect info regarding the non-starting issue.
Apparently, they ripped out the stereo and MiGHT have tried to start the car with a screwdriver. It doesn’t appear as if the ignition was damaged. Slight language issue in the back and forth. Anyway...it is a $700 project Boxster that needs A LOT of TLC. It needs seats redone, top replaced (rear window punched out during theft), get car to turnover and running, carpet replaced/re-dyed, driver rear view mirror, new radio, new hood/trunk struts, brakes, rear spoiler replaced, and paint addresses due to being keyed. Pics coming soon |
