Sealant on water pump gasket?
I’ve seen posts both ways. Install dry or with sealant. If with sealant what type? Seal the bolt threads? Do the bolts hit water?
Thanks. |

The bolts hit no water, and no sealant for me, but I did buy an oem style metal gasket, possibly Porsche brand.

I have no advice about bolt thread sealer. I didn't use it when I installed mine. I don't remember the bolts seeing water... Hope this helps... |
Thanks, all. I have a metal gasket, so I guess I'm good to go.

On my 928 I used Permatex high temp (copper in colour). Bone dry after 10k so I'm very happy

Hey Doug what did you use to get those tricky right bolts on the water pump? Frankenstein wrench? Or does the swivel socket approach work?

I took the right side bolts off from under the car using a 1/4" drive ratchet, a long extension and a 10mm flex socket. It was an easy job, start to finish at a very relaxed pace less than 2 hours, most of that time was spent draining and adding back the coolant. The actual swap of the pump, from first water pump mounting bolt loosened to last water pump mounting bolt tightened, was probably 20 minutes. The rest of the time was all removing panels, hoses coolant, fan belt, etc. really, nothing to tough about it at all. I bought a 1/4" drive inch lb. torque wrench to get all the bolts torqued properly. It's on the car now, no leaks.
