Spacer question
When looking at my 2000 986 I noticed my least favorite angle of the car is standing at the front, looking at the side but at an angle. I then walked around looking at different views, back straight side, front, side view from rear of the car. All great. After trying to figure out the angle I didn't like, I realized the wheels are in the wheel wells to deep. The back looks great. The car is an S with the 17" twists. Do people ever put spacers just in the front and if so, what size spacers would be used so they don't protrude more the rears. No spacers in the rears. 1st one I like, 2nd not so much.

If it matters, car has bilstein HD's and h&r springs all around.
|
I’ve got 15mm spacers for all 4 corners coming shortly, along with a wheel stud conversion to compensate for the depth of the spacers.
I’ll post up some pics in a couple of weeks once they get home and I’ve got everything installed. |
I’d go 10 to 15 all around.

Here's what 15s all around looks like.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523245233.jpg

Thanks everyone. I love that car JB. Almost got red, seller backed out.. BoxsterSteve, what spacers did you get?
|
I feel the same way, the view from the front is spoiled by the front track being too narrow. I put 15 mm spacers on the front and thought it made a large difference in how it looks (for the better). It also has slightly more steering feel now. I like it so much, I've got rear 20 mm spacers on the way from ECS Tuning.
|
I've got ECS Tuning 15mm front and 25mm rear. Fills out the wheel wells perfectly.

Curious if you add spacers do you need to have the car alligned again?

Not overly pricey. Couldn’t find the exact ones I bought. |
I just put 15mm all around a few weeks back and I’m in love with the new look! No longer looks wimpy.. handles better too. Go for it!
|
Put front and rear, the rear needs to come out more as well. You won’t regret it
|
Now is this a case of you get what you pay for? The prices are all over the place. I just don't want to buy cheap ones and have the bolts shear off. Anyone have a brand recommendation? Thanks again guys.

H&R spacers are another brand I’ve used on other cars in the past that are regarded well. In my understanding the key is that they are hubcentric. |

Does 260 sound right for 4 15mm spacers and lugs?
Any before and after pictures? |
I paid $130 for two 15 mm spacers with lugs from ECS, so that does sound right.

I have to disagree with that. You are not changing any of the alignment settings.

I was just under $130 for the stud conversion kit and 4 15mm hubcentric spacers.

He confirmed they are an R14 ball seat lug nut and the studs & lugs have a 14x1.5 thread pitch, as does Porsche. I may have bought a red herring, but I reasoned that if the thread pitch and lug nut seat are the same spec as my car, I may not have screwed myself. Spacers were from eBay vendor titanwheelacc. They don’t have the set I bought up for sale currently; but I bought a set of 4 15mm hubcentric 5x130 spacers to fit Porsche & Audi. They cost me $62 & free shipping. As of yet, I haven’t got the goods in my sweaty little hands. In laws come home from FL end of next week, so I hope to have installation complete as soon as the pull out of my driveway. :D |

I got my 20mm spacers for the rear yesterday, and installed them last night. I took before and after pictures, trying to exactly match the angles, which is surprisingly difficult to do if you don't use a tripod!
Before, after, and another after showing how the wheel is now out to the edge of the wheel well. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523639514.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523639542.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523639619.jpg |
I went to a track day yesterday, and realized I should have probably gotten 15mm spacers for the rear, because now the balance is different. Before the spacers, the handling was just right, very neutral. But now it understeers! Just a little bit, but it is a demonstration of how little things can affect the balance of the car.

I recently installed Eibach lowering springs on my '01 base model, all stock suspension otherwise. I'm planning on running 15mm spacers in the front and possibly 18mm/20mm in the rear.
Here's how the car sits now. I definitely want to get rid of that gap. I'm thinking 15mm will fit in the front without rubbing, but the rears is where I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards an 18mm in the rear so I don't risk the fender as much. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523742782.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523742851.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523742884.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1523742918.jpg |
It doesn't rub with the 20 mm spacers on the rear. I've done a track day, and no evidence of rubbing at all.

I'm going to Hershey on Saturday. What are the key words I need to buy spacer?
15mm aluminum, hubcentric... Anything else? |
