Hi!
I'm going to embark on this myself, and I'd love to know how you ended up doing this.
Will it work with the stock M490 amp or did you have to do something different? What connectors and cables? etc.

I did the same just last weekend. I wish I had seen the post above! I didn't realize how simple it would have been to wire up that existing amp. I chucked that 987 Bose amp and went with an aftermarket mono amp.
One question... based on the pin out above where does the amp/box pick up signal?

Cool, thanks!
How'd you wire it into your M490 amp? Or did you go directly from your head unit?

Someone asked about the sound quality. I mean it's not a 12" sub, but you do get some nice bass out of it. I am definitely not yearning for more.

Just ordered one on eBay.
Is there an idiots guide to wiring this up somewhere ?
Like initial questions I have is the built in amp powering both subs and the two full drivers and does it expect line or speaker level signal ?

Assuming this is hardwired, how do you remove it when you need to access the engine? The current speaker box just unplugs easily.

it wont plug in, but you could splice it in. You wont really get any good sound out of it though since the output will be all freq. instead of just the low for a sub. Really needs to be run to an amp...factory or aftermarket....or you need to have a crossover between the radio & sub.

The 987 sub box includes a built-in amp for the sub. It connects and disconnects in the same spot as the 986 box.

It's strange because these aren't even wired sensibly: Sub + is a standalone wire but Sub - is attached with the Right Rear +
I'm trying to determine how these will plug into the back of a head unit? Or is that in a non-Bose car, you have to split the those two connected pairs into 4 separate wires?

There are various threads saying to stuff the sub with synthetic pillow stuffing for better sound. I did my Boxster sub and Cayman footwell sub. My ear isn't refined enough to know if it made a difference but it's a fun w/e project and something to do with an old pillow.

What kind of synthetic pillow did you use?

The kind that doesn't contain feathers. When opened, you can grab a handfull of the polyfill stuffing out of the pillow and stuff it into the cavities of the subwoofer.
