PC, Poor Boy's 1/2 & Zaino = Wow!

Came up on the 5-year anniversary for my Box and finally got on it with the Porter-Cable. Had been bothered by the spiderwebbing on the car since a free "customer service" car wash at the dealership back when she was still new.

Had tried all sorts of products and techniques up to this time but nothing really made it the way I wanted it to look. After trying out the P-C on my daily driver it was finally time to take it to the Boxster. I went really slow to start (Poor Boy's SSR 1 with a white Lake Country VC pad) but that was taking forever... switched over to SSR 2 with a yellow pad and then followed up again with the SSR 1/white combo to finish off. Topped it off with a coat of Zaino and here is the result.

I'm really happy with it - the only problem is now everybody wants to touch the car - it's hypnotic! Even the dragonflies in the yard have taken a peculiar liking to it now and continually dive and hover over the surface (seems like a pond to them?).

I'm also amazed at how soft the German paint is. When people do touch the car, the surface is now so perfect that the slightest scratch is obvious. And touching with anything but the right stuff causes scratches... :( but I'll live with that for the great look... at least I now know how to get rid of them quickly!

Starting with a sample of the before... note the cloudiness on the hood...

Looks excellent, fresh and ready :)

What kind of car is to the left of the picture? It was peeking out trying to get photographed :)

Don,

Don't know how many coats of Zaino you have on that baby, but it looks great! All I can tell you is keep layering the Zaino on it . This stuff is amazingly hard. Repeated layers of Z5 and Z2 will protect your paint better than any wax ever could.

Thanks!

The peeking car is a Subaru Legacy wagon, serving the daily driver role in all weather. It was the practice dummy for using the P-C and doing a Zaino vs. Klasse comparison. It may be a little jealous of the Box's being in the spotlight as it works hard too and tries to stay nice looking even after almost 10 years on the road doing all the dirty jobs.

That's a single coat of Z-5 with a later partial application of Z-8/Z-6 on the hood. I tried applying the detailing sprays right around sunset and with the light and temperature change I was having a hard time getting it to look right/even - I think there was some condensation on the car's surface. I'll try the Z-8 again on a good dry day and then follow up with more coats of Z-5/Z-2.

Donv, great job! Your car looks very nice.

I love the Zaino too. I have many coats of Z2 and Z5 on my Boxster. More than 15. But, I have not been real successful with the Z8. Maybe it's my technique, or lack there of! The Z6 works better for me.

The Z7 Car Wash is very good, too.

Good work.
