Re-built motor

[Dose anyone know of a recommended place to get a 3.2 m96 motor ? Best quality rebuild most reputable ?Any one have a 2000 3.4 for sale?

I have a 3.2 removed from a 2001 S with 22K on the clock. $5,500 plus shipping

There are rebuilds and there are rebuilds. What are you expecting to have been done to the engine? New cylinder liners? New bearings? AOS? Auxiliaries attached? Long block? Short block?

The M96 isn't like old American iron where I've gotten a rebuild for $1300 (and replaced it 3k miles later).

You are in Texas. I would check with Woody. User name Itsnotanova. He is a reliable boxster dismantler.

Deadeye is this your personal car do you have any history on the motor ? Did you buy the car new ?

Jake Raby

But unless you're wealthy, you might as well buy another car.

Bought it from insurance co. parts. Needed the trans and some body panels.

Buying a used motor is your best option if you're looking to get the car back on the road for as cheap as possible. As mentioned earlier, Jake Raby's the best but very expensive. I don't know of anyone in the Houston area. For how big that city is, it's not much of a car town. Most good porsche mechanics are up in Dallas. Chris Amond and his dad Charles Amond of Mayo Performance in Euless can rebuild motors. There's also Charlie with Innovative Performance in Carrolton. There's also James with 911motors in San Antonio. James goes by j911brick on here. He's probably going to be your cheapest route as he mostly does that on the side. Now if you're racing your boxster, Chris Cervelli out of Denver is your man. He only works on race cars and has a wonderful dry sump system he can install too.

I have a second hand 2000 to 02 factory rebuilt 2.7 that I just put in my 01. I bought it on Ebay for $2500 shipped from LA. Just got it started this past week and it seems to be pretty good. The engine seems to have been reman'd after 05, it has the later IMSB installed.

You can probably still get factory reman'd 3.2 engines from Porsche. I don't know what they cost, but I'd guess you'd just as well have something from Raby--who last I check had engines that 'started' at about $15,000.

Used 2.7's are pretty common. I don't know about 3.2's. https://www.ebay.com/sch/porsche%20boxster%203.2%20engine?rmvSB=true

Buying a used engine is always a crapshoot.

I lucked into a great deal on a Raby equipped car. Absolutely no complaints or problems with a lot of peace of mind. They are expensive though, I think it matters what peace of mind is worth to you.

There are no more M96 engines from PCNA. They have short blocks for $18,000 with acceptable core exchange.
