986 Key Head options:

I want to create a spare key with the transmitter, but nothing fancy. No remote entry or anything.

I ordered 99653842300, but there is no place to put the little "pill"

Is it 99653842301? that has the space for the pill?

If you google the part numbers, you'll see it's a very small plastic key head. I know I did this once before (years ago for another 986).

Ideas?

I have a 97 without any remote entry/alarm, just a basic key with a tiny light in. I can't find any part number on the keys, but they both look exactly like 94453804100 from a google.

I also found this, which has a pic of a 'spare' type key with a different 986 code... Boxster Extra Keys - Pelican Parts Technical BBS (edit, actually looks like thats a remote one?)

I purchased 2 of the basic keys (no Buttons) and lighted heads part #'s 996-637-041-01 and 996-538-531-00 from the dealer for $138.50. The dealer also programed them to my car for another $85.50.

^ ah looks like 996-637-041-01 is a better match for a boxster.

the key blade is a bit of a rip for that price though, I got a replacement cut at a local locksmith for half that including the blank and the cutting. It's just a standard blade, nothing special.

Thanks, I did pick up 996-637-041-01 with the little light. It works good. But was hoping to get something even smaller. Keys are getting heavy in the pocket.

My 2-button remote died and I don't think I'll try to get all that working again. The key head on those are huge.
