Where's the 987 forum?
 

Is this the place to be for 987 discussions, or is there a different forum somewhere that's better? If this is the place, they should have called it Boxsterforum.com. 986forum was pretty short-sighted IMO.

986, 987.. whats the difference.. they are all Boxsters and we are all Boxster owners. Seems a tad short sighted to expect a special name for your model designation :)

Which is exactly why it should have been called boxsterforum and not 986forum.

986 is specific to the pre-05 Boxsters, and that's why I'm asking if this forum is specifically meant ONLY for that type.

No we chat about all Boxsters and Caymans too.

I assume the original creator simply found the Boxster name taken or did not think long term.

I know I appreciate the info on when the 986 was updated to the 987. Good stuff..... Keep it coming....

Also, using "boxster" in a web address is a legal no-no. Porsche has reserved the rights through trademarks and copyrights. I think that's why boxa.net (UK Boxster Forum) didn't use the full name and went with a ganster-pronunciation of it to get around it.

Really, no offense was intended to anyone. I'm not yet a Boxster owner but I'm looking to put an order in for an '07 soon and wasn't sure if this was the best place to exchange info. Looks like it is. The Rennlist and Pelican forums (the boxster ones) seem to be dead.

My current car is an '86 911 which I track often. The Boxster would be street only.

That does make sense, as I'm aware of how stringent the Porsche legal department is. I take back what I said earlier.

They could use a little bit of PHP to change the logo at the top based on if the url is 987forum.com or not.. that'd be funny

not to sound like a stir ******************** but ..

maybe it would make sense to branch off the 987 stuff seperate from the 986 stuff. I mean, its already that way for the Cayman. Some boards have done it (rennlist/renntech) and others have not (this one and 6speedonline).

There are just too many differences between the models for much if any information to be shared (from a technical perspective).

Simpletons like me would appreciate it.

i hate the fact that this website is also used by 987 porsche owners. i find that i read a lot about new problems, and things that really don't relate to my car 986. i guess this site will pretty much turn into a 987 web forum in time and us 986 owners will have to find somewhere else to go.

i can't deal, they should put a new section in, that lets 987 owners talk 987. then i can cut the 987 all that i want, and not fear that i may offend someone because i don't like there car.......lol/jokes.

There are pros and cons of each approach. Frankly, I like to deal with both and see the interchange as useful.

But, that is just me.

Perhaps you can start a poll thread to see what folks think in the aggregate.

Honestly i was just joking. for us 986 owners it shouldnt be an issue, reading about the new cars, and all the upgrades. really the cars are the same. the things that have change are very minor, if not more exterior. more refined.

or i'm just jealous, n want what they have a, new toy. for that matter i hate and love both cars, so i dont mind that 987 owners come here. its actually good for them and 986 owners.

it'd be like saying, that every year should have its own forum. the 1997 boxster is fairly different from the 2004. i don't hear them complaining, that we took over there forum.

Yes there are, at the popular Porsche forum sites that handle all models.

Just taking a quick look at the first page of threads in the General Discussion area, it appears that most threads are about topics that apply to both Boxster types. Maybe splitting the tech section up into separate 987 and 986 sections would make sense, but aside from that I think it would be better to keep the other sections integrated.

If Porches sells like Honda or Toyota, it might make sense to split the forum to 986 and 987 because the number of existing audience IMO.

The way I remember it, when Jorge started this place it was called Boxsterforum.com, but then there was the Porsche police.

I'm a 987 owner and a lot of the 986 problems have helped me diagnose any issues that I have had....yes Randall, I too have had problems with my brand new warranty car.

In the words of Jesse Jackson, "I like the pontification that happens during mastication of the justification of the Boxsternation!" Um, I just made that up, don't tell Jesse...I can't afford a lawsuit by the ACLU.
