Whats on your list?
When I bought my Boxster I wanted to do two or three things to it,mainly catch up on maintaince. WELL THAT LIST HAS GROWN. Here is my list of stuff I want to do and am curious as to what others' list may be like.
1. Get my darn alignement straightened out.(I think all wheels need to be rebalanced and an alignment)($175 Inde shop) 2. Get the "door ding" removed from passenger door. ($75-100) 3. Change the bearing on the secondary air pump.($?) 4. Find a Harmon Traffic Pro or Nakamichi CD400 to change out the stock "deck" with. ($200-400) 5. Get new floor mat for driver side. (A pair is $100) Possibilites; Rear Diffusers Porsche Sport Exhust Clear Headlights(Halogen or Litronics) Your turn... |
smaller list
I had a couple changeds I was looking to make:
1. change the shifter knob to the boxster s version (didn't work out, 5 sp vs. 6sp pattern on shift knob, what an oversight) 2. 19 inch carrera classics (great deal on ebay 2500 for rubbers and rims should have done it then) what I have done: 3. just deambered the side markers....I have to admitt it looks a lot better 4. bought schnell shot shift and will install soon What I have to do ASAP 5. make a fricking iPod connection, the iTrip has me to the point of burning cd's again...... |
I've done dozens of repairs and a dozen more mods. My new list is short:
1. Find the doggone "come and go" squeak in the front driver's side suspension. It's humidity-related, making it very hard to get to my mechanic when it's making the squeaks. 2. Replace my 17's with aftermarket 18's like Jeph did. I want to be just like Jeph...(except for the goofy dancing he films and posts to google). 3. I really, really need a paint job. Cleaned the car this morning and it's scratched all over (these sucker's aint gonna buff out) and I have door dings all over the place. Still looks great in the dark being black, but I don't drive in the dark all that much. :D The SC kit is still on the burner, but in the back now. |
Here is my list.
1. Have my front hood/bumper re painted (way too many chip marks). Apply the clear protectant.($1500-2000) 2. Add side skirts. ($1500-2500) 4. Add clear from headlights. (?) Cha cha ching..... |
How could I forget
White face gauges...they are actually listed as silver
|
I have no serious desire to make it faster. |
Here is my "wish" list:
1) Rear Racing Dynamics strut tower brace- I did the front already. Still waiting for the rear brace to come out. 2) RUF 3.8 liter 997 Carrera S Engine Conversion |
Get her to run. Until then, anything else is pointless.

Long List
I got my 2.7L 2000 Boxster several months ago an it needed defered maintenance. I did that then did a few mods.
Here are the housekeeping things I have done so far: 1. Redyed seats, the process worked well, but I put the dye on a little too heavy, should have thinned it a little. 2. Cleaned MAF to no effect, so replaced it. 3. Got the car with 42K on it, no records, so did 30K service (ouch), Porsche mechanic said it looked like the original plugs, so it looks like the two previous owners missed the 30K service. 4. Remote key was all rusted out got a new one programmed. 5. Touched up road rash on rear wheels 6. Was a lot of slack in the shifter cables, my local dealer said that he has seen several cars of my vintage with slack in the cables where the ends pop off the cables and you are stuck in the gear you are in till they are replaced. That scared me enough that I had the shift cables replaced, almost 600 bucks, ouch again. 7. Replaced rear brake pads Mods I have done: 1. Replaced stereo with JL Audio Slash outboard amps, JL Audio indash and indoor speakers and high-end Pioneer head unit with XM. Sounds great, especially on long road trips. 2. TTP cold air intake, Fabspeed secondary Cat bypass pipes, AutoAuthority chip List of things to do: 1. Drive more, I love this car, I just drove 1,600 miles over the last three days, and I am ready for more, but cannt now, have to work to pay for all the stuff I am doing to the car........ 2. I plan on getting new tires, at least rears and an allingment next week. 3. I will be needing new front rotors in the next 5-10K 4. I am looking for a good custom subwoofer system to complete the audio rig. 5. My windshield washer just pooped out, motor works, but is squirting fluid into the wheel-well, got to try to fix it myself. 6. I am getting a new windshield, almost 800 bucks, but is covered by my insurance, lots of small chips. 7. I plan on putting on headers, high-flow cats and Gemballa muffler system in the next month or so. It looks like I have spiraled down the evil road of dumping money into this car. I paid $21,000 for the car with 42,000 miles on it and it looked great when bought. I realize with the money I have dumped into it, I could have bought a more recent generation car or an "S", but I dont really mind as this is my my first Porsche after 40 years of lusting for one, it has fairly low mileage (or it did when I got it), does not leak a drop of oil, runs like a top, and I love it. What can I say... Ed 2000 2.7L Boxster Arctic Silver Black 48K and counting.... |
