I saw a Speed Booster listed in the Pelican Parts catalog and I was wondering if anyone is using one and what is their experience.

Thanks Charles, that was a good read as well as the white paper attached to his article. Makes me wonder if this amplification is programmed into the newer boxsters with sport and sport plus mode with the sports chrono package.

I use a Mac, zero ads. Sadly, the site is flawed in that it favors ads and comments over
content. Such sites are ignored.

That aside, speed boosters are snake oil, nothing more.

"outback Joe" and "Macho" seem like pretty good qualification indicators for tech articles and conclusions...lol

it is the Sprint Booster...and there are some other manufacturers nowadays...e.g. PedalBox etc.
They offer different pedal responsiveness settings (no extra power of course lol)...some up to 7 different ones.
I have the Sprint Booster...100 bucks well invested IMO...it does pretty much exact the same stuff they offer in more recent sports cars.
Of course the latest ones adjust the spring settings etc. as well.
Once you have installed one (in e.g. a smaller engine like mine 2.7l)...gas feels much more responsive. Only in the highest sport setting the fine throttle adjustability is noticeably reduced.
In middle settings...gas is immediately there and NO PROBLEMS with fine throttle adjustments, at all. You will only notice that, once you go back the original settings.
The original suddenly feels like "1 sec, Oh ...you stepped on the gas"
I never went back.

P.S.: Not quite sure about tiptronic cars. Sports setting in the Macan GTS feels fine, no problem with fine adjustments of the gas pedal...so the same should go for our 986, I guess.

Robert, I'm sure that some of the forum users can provide you some tips to make it work better, but I see in your profile that you're probably an expert already.
The article runs very clean with no ads on my desktop, but I have a blocker activated for most of the scripts. I'm not much of an i-Person, just a dumb old PC guy since the 8088s.


So, in summary of the article, what it does is give more gas with less pedal.

I suppose if you have sore feet, a heel or ankle ailment, this can be a great benefit. Otherwise, just push the pedal farther-faster yourself to get the same performance benefit.

I have a car with the reverse feature. An ECO setting deadens the accelerator pedal removing the slight variations in pedal pressure you induce when going over a bump or just twitching your foot. Result is better fuel economy. You can still stamp down or make major changes in the pedal position, it is just the slight variations that get dampened out thus reducing the little squirts the fuel injectors would have made in response to the slight pedal pressure that is dampened out.

Label me a born skeptic for most things. And, as an engineer, I understand the approach behind the design of the booster and what the module is doing. However, I had the chance to pick up one for CHEAP. So, just for giggles, why not.

What folks are discounting is the human factor in all of this. After years of mashing the pedal and establishing that subconscious "muscle memory" of the point where the car moves in relation to the pedal, changing it does create a new sensation. Not real, I understand, but as they say perception IS reality. Bottom line is I wouldn't go back.
