I created a thread like this last year, and it was fun to see what everyone got for their Porsche on Christmas! So what did you get?

I got a framed 986 prototype print, but my dad really won this year. I visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart in May, and commented on the nifty uniforms the Porsche factory workers wear. He shocked me with a nifty custom mechanics jumpsuit for when I work on my 986. I still can't tell if it was a joke or not. :cool:

My 1999 986 will be getting a new paint job and maybe a wrap. Also steering wheel and new or painted rims. Saving up for that now.

Love the print..and jumpsuit is very nice. Kudos for thought. Regarding the print, I didn't know you could patent an entire car...unique parts, sure...but the entire car? Guess I learn something every day.

Regarding Christmas, this was the first year my wife and I did absolutely nothing. I shoveled the driveway and changed out some light fixtures while she did some laundry and watched TV; she had a microwave meal and I'm about to nuke a burrito. Admittedly it felt like something was lacking, but then again, I guess the excitment of Christmas and presents is more for the young anyway. This all sounds like I am being awfully negative, but it's just an honest statement, and and really I'm OK with it. I do sincerely hope all here did have a wonderful Christmas...and extending best wishes for a safe and happy New Year.

Mechanic's shirts are quite "in style" these days so I think that coverall's are pretty darn cool!

We're not opening gifts until Sat so I'll have to wait until then...

Utility Patent vs Design Patent

Patent law provides a first legal protection for automobile designs. When the term "patent" is mentioned, what comes to mind most frequently is what is known as a "utility" patent - a patent that protects a new and useful process, machine, manufacture or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof. However, another type of patent exists, known as a "design" patent.

Generally, a utility patent is available for the functional aspects of a product (e.g., a new and non-obvious convertible top system), while a design patent is available for the ornamental features of a product (e.g., the look of the automobile not dictated by functional features). Theoretically, a line can be drawn between the two such that a feature obtaining design patent protection cannot, also, obtain utility patent protection.

The key requirement in obtaining design patent protection is for the design to be new, non-functional and non-obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art - e.g., an average designer in the automobile industry. If and when a design patent is granted, the owner of the design patent will be entitled to 14 years from the issue date of the right to exclude others from making, using, offering to sell or selling the patented design.

Alcantara GT3 RS shift knob/boot for me. Didn't take a pick yet.

New set of H & R Springs to be installed soon. Was going to upload a photo, but couldn’t the iPhone wasn’t cooperating.

I got Pedro's TechnoBrace rear suspension brace. Now I only have to wait 5 months to try it out. :mad:
