Spark plug tubes question
I order all my tune up stuff plugs,o-rings,fuel filter etc etc and was wondering if I should have ordered the spark plug tubes. Do these things get brittle? My car just turned 50k. Opinions please, change them while Im down there regardless of condition?

Nope, they are a non-stressed part and unless cracked on removal and inspection, you should be good to go with just a change of the inner/outer 'O' rings (two separate PNs). Just take care in removing them so as not to damage them. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Yes, thanks. You know I was buying the o-rings and the web site mentioned that they get brittle. The only thing that I think would damage them is heat. Well, I didnt buy them at this point. Glad I made the right choice. Thanks again.

If one of the tubes did crack what would it leak? oil or water?

Would leak Oil
where in Ohio? |
For what it's worth. When I had my 996 I had (2) crack on me. Oil ended up leaking in there and causing a misfire.
I can't remember how much it was to fix - but I would make sure you were careful when change the plugs. *and for the record - I don't work on my engine - so I wasn't the one that damaged them ;) |
I am in between Dayton and Cincinnati.
