I finally broke down and ordered a set. They are due the first week of January. I already have four jack stands. Watching the videos of them in use convinced me. The car goes up quickly and appears to be rock solid.

Rex,
After you get them (if it's ok with you), I would like to swing by to check them out, as my car is pretty low but the idea seems like a good one...

Me too, I have been looking at these forever. I don't know if mine will be here the first week of Jan though.

Liftbars, I'm convinced
Here are the liftbars in action. IMO they are worth every penny. I have two cars to do 30K services. These are making it some much easier and safer.

Quick Tip
One little liftbars tip. If you intend to remove the rear underside plastic tray then remove the fasteners before lifting the car. The liftbars cover the fasteners on the outside edges and make it more difficult to remove once these are in place.

Other than a hydraulic lift this is the next best thing.

liftbars
Thanks for posting the pics of the liftbars. I have a lift but they could still come in handy.
They look like they would be easy to duplicate and I have a couple of ideas that could improve on them.

The key to his design is in the ends. As simple as the design is, they are very well thought out and plug right into the lift points. Rock solid. I considered making something up also. The potential monetary savings over the time/material/trial and error required wasn't enough for me. Credit card, done.
