For those going into Winter Mode.
Good Morning fellow Boxster owners,
This is the first year that my car will go into hibernation, my question to everyone is; 1) how do you prep your car 4 winter. 2) how many times a week do you start your car. 3) do you remove the batter or trickle charge it. Any advice is greatly appreciated! |
1. Fill tank with premium and add Stabil -
2. Tires to 50 psi to avoid flat spotting 3. Park in heated storage 4. Trickle charger / maintainer 5. Cover 6. Wake it up in April. No mid-storage starting. |

Change the oil. Fill gas tank with non ethanol gas if possible. If a manual, leave out of gear with e brake off. Chock tires to prevent rolling. Wash car if possible. |
I would add to do something about mice.
Moth balls, traps, glue stick. One eaten wire and you will be wishing you used it as a plow truck. Ok, I am exaggerating but it does really stink. |
I would add: for mouse I use Bounce sheets all over the interior and trunk + frunk
Also, crack open both windows about 1/2 inches. |

No eaten wire, but last spring I found a bunch of mouse-chewed stuff in my air box  |
Maintainer, Noah cover. Parked under the assumption that I'd be able to get it out every few weeks. I did. No starts just to start. If I started it, it was to drive 15-20 miles to work and then back home. Oil changed before winter if not by 5k miles. Did this for 5 years. 5 years, 40 k miles and two owners later it was still fine last I heard.

I would add: depending on your environment stuff exhaust with material and loosen (release the tension) on your top, condition the leather
|
wash car
Wheel stoppers disengage ebrake make sure in neutral Open drivers door disconnect battery leave frunk ajar close drivers door cover That's all I do plus add stabil if I remember |

Why no E brake?

E-brake consideration is always a good idea. The 'out of gear' is not something I consider - over 16 years of storing vehices over the winter and I leave it in gear - never an issue.
|
What is the hibernation spot you have to park it like? Flat or a slope? How secure? Covered? Climate?

Thanks for reminding me!
It went up to 15 degrees C here yesterday, 60 degrees F so had final oil change done, washed car in driveway (wearing shorts!) and put it away in the garage, battery tender plugged in to sigarette lighter. BUT forgot the Bounce fabic sheets, I stuffed them in the tailpipes and all the nooks and crannies last winter and no mouse issues, so gotta get that done now. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1511453634.jpg
