Winter sadness

Put the 01 S away for winter... no 986 fun until April :(
In the meantime however, I can start planning the 2018 upgrades!!!

Winter?

I called an A/C repair guy at 9pm last night...

HA! Winter is when I do my annual maintenance when it's finally cool enough in the garage.

FoxRvrBox 10-24-2017 08:34 AM

My depression is starting to set in. Probably put it in storage this afternoon. Rainy / overcast weather with lows in the 30's and highs in the 50's all week.

tommy583 10-24-2017 08:34 AM

I feel your pain. Mine will be going away soon. But not today :D

boxfix 10-24-2017 08:49 AM

My problem is that it is too hot in the garage to work to day!!!

Where is that Fan??

100F in LA

Drphil 10-24-2017 08:56 AM

finally cool enough to work on the car in the garage with out a major sweat! - just took the hard top off for the "winter" driving! this car had ice cold a/c and I leave the hard top on during summer as its too humid and hot in summer to drive with top down, but for the next 2-3 months is our perfect boxster weather! sorry for your pain, come down south for the winter!

Why put away? Drive it in winter.

Not up here on the prairie in the Great White North.

I thought October was the start of Spring ending sometime which ends in early June.

Ditto!!!

just bought a hardtop for winter driving, now thinking to go hardcore with new snow tires.

rick3000 10-24-2017 09:53 PM

+1 for driving the 986 all winter!

You must have snow tires if you plan to drive below 40°, summer tires can turn into ice skates. More than one member here has learned this the hard way.

I live in the UK. If i put the car away for bad weather - it would only ever see the road for a couple of days a year !!

I dont like driving her in the wet and snow though and autumn can be bad because of the leaf debris.

xzyfsk 10-25-2017 12:45 AM

Well yes in the mid west we are talking 10F and below sometimes. The DOT throws boat loads of salt on the roads to battle snow and ice so I don't think driving the 986 during the winter here would do it any favors.

DrCactus 10-25-2017 02:34 AM

Sadly I will also be putting my 01 S to bed this coming weekend if the weather isn't raining... :(

Nevergrowup 10-25-2017 02:42 AM

Most Porsche owners in Norway put their cars away for the winter. I'm not one of them.

I lived in New England, Quebec, Illinois, Indiana.....I know winter.

I know your pain.

kirkandorules 10-25-2017 05:26 AM

Probably going to order some snow tires and hopefully track down a hardtop soon. I have all seasons right now with plenty of life, but they weren't the greatest when I hit a random snowstorm in Wyoming a few weeks ago.

Dave S. 10-25-2017 06:34 AM

Put mine in storage about a week ago. It's sad, but every spring it's like getting a brand new car again.

Traco 10-25-2017 07:28 AM

Mine goes off the road this weekend also. Saves €800+ on road tax alone. Plus the car would be permanently wet then add salt etc. There will probably only be two dry weekends between now and springtime so just no point unfortunately.

A rather rusty Miata, that was run with snow tires and hard top for several winters, is partly why I got the Boxster and I'd rather not subject it to those conditions. However If they didn't ever use salt on the roads I'd be a bit more inclined to drive it in the winter.

TripleTrophy 10-25-2017 10:47 AM

I cleaned mine up this week and tried the cover on it today. I will try to keep driving it up to sometime in December, weather dependent, but don't want to get it dirty, since I like to store it clean and hate washing cars in cold weather. I was really pleased with the quality of the cover, but find it does need to be carefully placed over the convertible top, since it does not slide on it.
