Need help buying

Total Boxster noob here. I've owned an 86 944 NA and currently drive a BMW Z3. Was looking around Craigslist and stumbled upon this post and I was wondering if it was too high of an asking price for the mileage? I'm definitely going to ask for more pictures though

One red flag is the fact it is listed as a 4 cylinder ... but the VIN decodes as a 2001 Boxster S, 3.2 liter 6 cylinder.

mikefocke 10-12-2017 05:11 PM

No mention of the quality of the parts used to replace those listed as replaced.

Jamesp 10-12-2017 05:18 PM

Jump on it. If it were near me, I would and I don't need one. Do get a PPI. If something it too good to be true...

Aggromuffin 10-12-2017 07:14 PM

Messaged him. He'll pay for the PPI! If everything's good I'm gonna close the deal ASAP. Will keep posted. Thank you so much guys. Any into posts I should be reading & diy guides?

Lots of stuff replaced after ONLY 11K (11,000 miles)..........I'd want to know WHY?.....kinda curious.

Aggromuffin 10-13-2017 08:53 AM

Here's a synopsis I just got from the seller

"
I purchased it in or around 2011 at Del Mar Motor Cars in Del Mar, California. Fun, sporty and a real joy to drive. Due to the busy comings and goings of life, it sat mostly in the garage for a couple of years. I put very low mileage on it from the time of purchase, and frankly until now. I moved it up to Idaho in the Spring of 2015. Prior to that, in April 2015, I replaced the clutch and the IMS bearing. The IMS bearing tends to give people trouble, and without warning leads to catastrophic failure. So, it is not uncommon for owners of the 2001 Porsche Boxster-S to aggressively replace the IMS bearing and eliminate that concern. Performing the work in conjunction with the clutch work makes perfect sense as you have to tear down the same parts of the vehicle. I also replaced a stabilizer bar in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven up to Idaho and performed well. In the Summer of 2016, I replaced the water pump at Bruneel's Tire in McCall.

Overall, the vehicle is in very good condition. On the flip side, here is what should be addressed by the new owner over time: there is a check engine light on which is due to the catalytic converter. In California, they are required for smog relief. I was advised that the check engine light could be re-set prior to having the vehcile smogged and it would pass the test. I re-set the check engine light and it passed smog. In Idaho, catalytic converters are not required and I was informed that it could just be removed or ignored. That is the source of the check engine light, as confirmed by European Motor Cars in Encinitas, CA. The windshield washer container should be replaced. The driver's seat electrical wiring should be checked as it periodically will stick.

Great sound system with great speakers."

These are the receipts from the work he did in 2015. Only 5K Miles ago. I tried uploading the PDF but it doesn't seem like it worked

Are you going to register it in CA?

You will have to address the check engine light. All 5 readiness monitors have to pass.

They plug their tester into the OBD2 port.

Ask me how I know what a pain this can be!!!

PPI is done. Looks like the car is in good condition minus the washer reservoir which he did tell me about before. Looks like it has a leek in it lol. New oil change today as well. I'm all set to pick it up this Thursday!

Single most important thing is to be present & inspect oil filter for anything other than oil!

THAT IS NOT A PPI!

That is a multi-point inspection that many general repair shops do for free in about 15 mins.

A PPI is a multi-page document that takes a couple of HOURS to perform and should be done by a shop that specializes in Porsche cars. The cost is $200-$300.

Welp, let's hope it's all good because I'm in too deep now :O
