Locked Car - 1 HONK ??

Hey folks, I got to work today and locked my car via remote and my car HONKED once... I checked to make sure the hood and the trunk both were closed and tried to lock the car again and STILL get 1 HONK.

Any ideas what else could be causing this HONK ?

Thanks
DR.

Center console not latched will also cause this.

Do you mean the little glove box compartment between the seats? I will take a look as I did have it open this morning... thanks.

I get the 'one honk/one light flash' issue sometimes as well. I'm not sure what the issue is but sometimes just opening the drivers door fixes the problem, sometimes opening and closing the console or glove compartment does it. I'm guessing I'll have to try and get at all the contacts for the microswitches and try and clean and/or replace them.

Likely a faulty micro switch somewhere. On my Carrera it was the glove box.

Any way to determine exactly which sensor is the problem? Is there something in my Durametric?

My center console does it every so often, in fact it did yesterday! Closed it firmly, no more honk

Nope. When it honks it the car telling you something isn't right. Usually something is left open or a micro switch has failed.

I get it every now and then, but my top is manual, so I know it's the microswitch under the... deck thingy, I guess it's called. Sometime the top is not sitting down all the way or it's still stiff from being up all winter. I leave the top down all summer so by June, it usually isn't a problem anymore.

Just replaced the stock CDR 220 Becker with a Pioneer Blue Tooth Set-up. Since I picked up the car, I now have the dreaded 1 Honk every time the car is locked or unlocked.

Can this somehow be related or does the timing of all this just make it seem that way?

It is most likely related. If you look at the CDR 220 you removed, there is a sticker on one side of the radio. (I think it is on the left side.) This matches up with an electrical connection. If the sticker isn't present, it will cause the anti-theft system to think the radio has been moved. Put a piece of electrical tape on your new radio in the same location as the sticker on the Becker unit. That should fix the problem.

Makes sense and thanks for making me aware of a 10 year old solution to my new problem!
