Instrument Cluster Clock Adjustment Knob
 

I purchased my 986 with a broken clock adjustment shaft. I'm able to wedge it back into place and it stays in there most of the time. I expect in time it could be lost so I'd like to either replace it, or find a more permanent fix. Can it be replaced without replacing the entire cluster? Or, can I glue it into place without future cluster removal problems? Your thoughts/guidance is appreciated.

My clock adjustment knob on my 2001 base manual transmission Boxster appears to be in-tact physically and has good visual appearance and all, but the electrical switch it's connected to seems to have given up. I've read about others having similar problems on this board. Maybe if your car had this (potentially common) problem, a previous owner broke off the knob by trying to overcompensate by attempting to operate it with too much force?

Last time I set the clock, I managed to to so successfully by disconnecting the battery, letting sit for long enough time (how long, I wish I could say but it took a few tries, actually, and I also bridged the positive and negative terminals together to try and drain any residual capacitors to get the clock to "forget"), and then reconnecting the battery at precisely high noon!

It worked to set the clock this way. However, I still wouldn't mind repairing the underlying electrical switch problem, if a reasonably do-able fix can be identified.

I replaced both knobs thinking that would solve my problem of not being able to set the clock. Didn't work. I also have to disconnect the batter at 11:50 and wait for 12.
