How many miles on a tank typically?
Getting ready to take a trip from South of Tucson,AZ to Northern Illinois. I have a 2001 Boxster S. I know some of you have taken some lengthy trips and might be able to tell me how many miles I can expect to go conservatively between fill ups. Just trying to plan my fuel stops.
Any help appreciated. |
2002 S: Typically on trips I go 300 - 320 miles between fills.
Longest tank ever was 337 miles, average including every fill is 270 miles. |

Kinda depends on how fast you drive and what the terrain is
I have at time averaged over 27 mpg, so a full tank would go over 400 miles I would say you can go safely at least 350 miles on a full tank and have reserves |
1999 2.5
Highway driving about 330-343 miles. This last tank was alot of driving on highway and got 343 miles on a tank. Normally average about 284-300 miles back and forth to work on a tank. |
2001 S
I get 235 miles IF I am lucky... |

If I DE or AX it drops to 10 mpg or lower. :-) What do you do to get only 235 miles or less? |

I've had several 400 mile tanks. ;)
Usually it's around 320 miles, though - mostly a mix of city and highway. |
Thanks for all the responses. I will let you know what I get.

On the Hwy I to see 400+ mile tanks but I usually start looking for gas once I drop under 100 miles to go. So really I am refilling about every 5 hours/300 miles hwy travel
Mixed driving I concur that you will seeing 325-350 miles depending on how hard you drive and how much stop and go |
On a highway trip you should be able to get 350 miles and still have a decent amount of gas to start looking for a place to fill up, maybe 400 miles if there are plenty of gas stations along the highway. That's been my experience on long distance trips with my 2003 S. On the other extreme, when I am at an HPDE I will use over 1/2 of a full tank over a day consisting of 4 sessions of 20-25 minutes each. But I'm fine with that, I see plenty of guys refilling their cars between sessions, they have to have gas cans on their trailers!

Me too, usually get between 225 and 260 during combined city/highway in the congested LA/OC traffic (averaging 19 mpg) . |
My range is bladder dependent.

In the last 12K miles, I have averaged 20.5 mpg. The farthest I've gone on a tank is +/-300 miles. I rarely wait until the light comes on to refill.

275 on a regular basis.

used the 02 s for 5 years on a sales route....always 280 miles per tank, staying in the throttle alot. mixed bag of traffic conditions. Come to think of it going to Sebring all highway around 300 mpg. Wait....am I really talking about gas mileage...who cares ,drive it like you stole it. You have plenty of money you own a Porsche!

I have an 01S.
I have taken three long distance trips, and I always plot out every gas stop ahead of time to program in my GPS. If you are cruising on relatively flat and straight I-roads, you can press 350-375 miles. Once I made 400 (on fumes). Plan on around 300 as others have said. I am doing a 5,00+ mile road trip throughout CO, AZ and UT in September and target that as the refill mark. I have never been lower than 275 with the hardest driving that I do, and while not on Jimmy Johnson level, neither am I "let's see how much mpg I can get". DBear |
Just did that trip in reverse northern IL to Phoenix in July got a consistent 25-26 mpg. 98 base at 80 mph average with AC on.
