Tried plasti dipping my headlight border...
...to matte black. Thought I'd see how they looked without the silver and I quite like it... thoughts?
I'll probably peel it off and do it again because there's a few blemishes where I peeled up the masking, and I didn't quite get the curves right in the bottom right corner and where the insert tapers. But it's the first time I've tried plasti dip and was impressed by how easy it was to apply and how well it levels itself as it dries. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1503556302.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1503556319.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1503556334.jpg |
Looks sufficiently "murdered out" to me. ;)
Just sayin'........... TO |
haha, not sure that's exactly what I was going for, but errr... thanks I guess :P

Looks great!

I like it, nice one.

Its actually beautiful, impressive. That plasti dip is matching the body color also.
The problem is once you hit the express way this is going to chip off pretty easily. Since the look/test passed (to me anyway) you may now want to consider doing this all over again but with satin finish paint. Nice work bud  |
I did mine in gloss black paint with clear coat. Looks a lot better on your non-amber lights, though...

These headlights were so yellow when I got them that you couldn't even see through to the inner lens. I wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper. I then outlined the edge in black automotive paint and then covered the whole light in a clear. It's been over a year of Texas sun beating down on them and they still look new. I've done a lot of modifications to my box, and outlining the headlights is one of my favorites.

On second thought maybe I can 😀 http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1503596327.jpg
If I like it, I think if I took my time I could get it. |
^ lol that was fast!
Thanks for the :thumbs-up: everyone! @Nine8Six - cheers! I like the matte though, might keep the plasti-dip for a while and see how it goes. If I have to redo them in a year no worries, if they look crap in a few weeks I might reconsider :) @itsnotanova - the black looks good on red! my lights were also terrible when I got them on ebay from someone who lived by the beach in tropical North Queensland, they'd seen some sun! They only cost about $200 US so you can guess the condition! Took a lot of sandpaper and buffing to get them looking decent again, but they still have a hint of yellow to them around the rims when the lights are on, hence why I tried this also. |

Think that plasti-crap is semi. Not full matte. Careful cuz some paints are pretty damn 'matte'. As in hollow effect lolll I'd test satin as well |

That plasti dip is going to peel right off as soon as you use the spray lollll Just pulling your leg, never used the stuff
I'd do a 101 skulls with an airbrush on a laser cut stencil... if you like painting ;) Butterflies if you are not into pirates lolll |
