Failed steering column lock

Okay so yesterday I had to flatbed my 2004 home from work (very embarrassing). Turned the key and it just rotated without turning the ignition on. First guess was maybe something with the ignition switch but I have not had any electrical issues. Anyway, once home I popped the tumblers and found that the steering column lock had broken where it meets the tumblers. See the picture. Anyone else seen this failure before or am I just unlucky? :confused:

Not in my Boxster......but;

I had this same failure in my E36 years ago, the metal shaft that connects the key to the lock broke in half. I'm not sure how to repair on a boxster but in the E36 it was a bit of a pain getting the anti theft bolts out with a punch......but it beat paying the dealer a grand to do this.
