Oops! What did I break?
Anyone have any idea what this tube is hanging off the intake of my 2001 Boxster S manual?
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500483512.jpg A quick google search tells me this should be the venturi tube, except my Box is a 6-speed manual, not a tip. If anyone knows what the part number is, it would be greatly appreciated. |
brake booster vacuum line.

Might be 999-230-498-40 [angled pipe] according to the 986 PET (107-10).
The line would be 996-355-577-42 (if it's going from the booster to the angled pipe). |

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500566183.jpg Mine actually looks a lot like this one, but Pelican says this won't fit. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500566228.jpg For the brake booster line, Pelican says that part was superseded by 996-355-577-43, but they don't have a photo. I did find a photo on eBay, but it doesn't look nearly long enough to reach the engine bay. My guess is the brake vacuum line comes in multiple parts and this is the part that connects to the brake booster. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500566463.jpg The part that broke is the pipe which has a connector with a circlip which looks a lot like the Venturi tube in this diagram. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500566718.jpg They have the part# for the Tiptronic, but no alternate for the Manual? |
Wonder if it's part of the EVAP system. Any particular scent coming from the broken line?

Do the power brakes work.

It is the brake booster vacuum line. Period.
On the Tiptronic cars, it connects to the right rear of the engine via the venturi tube. On the manual transmission cars, it connects to the left front of the engine. Part number 986.355.575.05 or 986.355.575.06. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two. I bet a phone call to Pelican Parts or Woody could get you the right part. Here's where the Vacuum line connects on the manual cars: Parts 3, 23, 24 connect the vacuum line. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500589765.jpg Here's the vacuum line: #14 - The elbow attaches to this on the manual cars. The venturi hose attaches to this on the Tiptronics. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500590154.jpg I learned all this a few years ago when I swapped a manual engine into a Tiptronic car. :D |
