Sticks and Stones

So, Odd question…

I recently got into a conversation with another Porsche enthusiast who is heavy into racing, and from the sound of it has about a half million dollars in Porsches and a pretty high opinion of himself.

I said I didn't race but drove a lot. But I also saw them as works of art and liked to restore and preserve them.

To that he rolled his eyes, huffed and said, "oh… You're just a (Blank)."

I didn't catch the word, but I got the basic meaning from the context...something to the effect that, "you are just a pantywaist who sits at home rubbing his car and doesn't know how to drive."

Anyway, I'm curious what that lovely derogatory term was he had for me, if anyone knows 😉👍

arriver? vs driver. the connotation being that you have the car for arriving (at restaurants, gelato stands, cars and coffee, etc.) instead of driving it.

I'm not sure if that was it, but i love it! Might be!
Yes…it's a scene right out of Miami Vice every time I step out of my Boxster.

I may not take my cars on track, but I bought this old Boxster BECAUSE I'm a driver. I could have easily purchased a variety of more impressive Porsches, but I wanted something I could hammer the crap out of on a daily basis out on these country roads where I live. It's relatively cheap to fix, very reliable, cheap to replace if it dies, goes like a bat out of Hell but not overpowered, and I may buy another one just because two is better than one.

HereIam, don't waste your time with people like that, move onto the next person, and have an enjoyable conversation.

it is ok to be both, who cares about what someone like this thinks.

I don't. I just wanted to know specifically what is slur was. I'm sure he has a sad life and a dark soul, which puts me one up on him.

Ironically, I'd just sold a '61 Beetle i restored to a private museum only a few days before the conversation. She's not only a great driver, but a work of art and a piece of our history. And I have made it so, God willing, she will live for at least another 55 years!

I usually get that type of comment from 993 owners. ost all the other models are just enjoying the cars.

If I had to guess, I would fill in the blank as Poseur (or something equivalent).

Definition: a person who pretends to be what he or she is not. He doesn't equate your passion for street driving to his skills at track driving.

This guy was an ass and probably has a small dick. The small minded always have a need to place themselves above others. Ignore him and anyone else who thinks like him.

Personally, I love beating the crap out of these kind of guys at the racetrack. Hate to say this but they are almost always driving a 911 and can't understand how I beat them in my Boxster. And then they pile on the excuses; they had bad tires, bad weather, bad setup, or my Boxster must have a 3.4 or 3.6 engine. And when I explain that its just a plain old 2.5 Boxster, they get pissed and walk away. :)

To put a positive swing on things, it's nice to hear that showing up in a 986 still has some cred. As a hardcore 986/996 guy, I hope these are the next 356A. Not a hard curve or angle in sight!

As a 993 owner and a participant at many P-Car functions, I have not heard any of them say nor suggest anything close.

Im pretty sure

That anyone who has a very high opinion of them selves has to because no one else does. :)

I`m not your A typical Porsche owner. Sometimes I get a second look when I get out of my car. Not unusual for me to be dressed in an old dirty NASCAR T-shirt, camo cargo shorts and a pair of Nike`s the dog wont chew. It`s the real car guys that will ask about the tech stuff. Snobs don`t ask me.I`m good with that.
I don`t dress like that if my wife is with me and I won`t explain why.
