Thoughts on value
 

I know that values vary based on location and demand.

I currently have 5 cars and I'm retiring in a few months and I just want to simplify a little by reducing the amount of cars that I have. I don't know if I'm going to sell the Boxster or not, but I'm starting to consider it.

I've owned the Boxster for the past 4 years. I bought the car with 28K miles and only have 36K now. I've only put 1k miles in the past 24 months as I just don't seem to enjoy the car like I used to.

Immediately after I got the car I had the IMS bearing replaced, RMS, AOS, both rear axles rebuilt, gear oil replaced and clutch and flywheel replaced. The car is in great shape and has been reliable, but I think that I'm just tired of having so many cars.

So what kind of values are they bringing in the Northeast?

It's just a nice car. Not 100% perfect, but certainly an 8 out of 10. I'm doing some research but you never know what they ultimately sell for when looking at pricing online. Do you guys have any knowledge about how they're selling?

Take a look at Craigslist in our area and in Philly. With the miles and service your car has, you're probably looking at better than $10k, maybe approaching $15k. I paid $6k for my '99, and it has 170k miles on it.

I bought my 03 S 1 year ago and paid $12800 w/66k miles. In very good condition w/IMS done.

What was the IMS replaced with?

LN engineering bearing.

man i wish you posted this a week ago! i am in the process right now of purchasing an 03' S triple black, sport package incl sport seats, LN IMS, Clutch, RMS with 66k miles for $11k. The one i am buying needs some TLC in the suspension and a few small things cosmetically.

Wanted to provide a point of reference, if yours is super clean with all the maintenance done and documented i would have paid closer to $13k for yours

I think if you clean it up well, post a lot of detailed, high quality photos, marketed it right--through PCA/Rennlist/Pelican, and hit the right point in the season that could be a $13-14k car depending on your region.

Most sellers don't do the work necessary to sell a car like this at top dollar; doing so requires the steps above in most cases (and probably getting it advertised beyond your regional audience).

You might try BaT auctions, but they haven't been terribly kind to 986's.

i purschased my 03S about six weeks ago and paid $13K. It did have a $3,500 clutch 'this spring but no IMS so I'll have to do that. In the processs of general maint updates and other items that turned up in the PPI. I also put on new MPSS tire even though the Sumitomo's were 8/32. I just didn't likthe Sumitomo's. Without the tires I've spent about 3K. In any case I would have spent $16K on the right car if I didn't need to perform all the maint work.i would start at $16K.

I would recommend if you plan to sell, you better get busy doing it. Convertible sales get progressively harder after July 1.

I haven't bought anything recent but I'm ALWAYS more apt to buy during the winter time.

Best deal I did was in very late December of 2003,purchasing a $47,500 (sticker) 2003 BMW Z4 3.0 6 speed with 5,000 miles for $30.500.

Car was out of NJ and arrived in here in FL very dirty but without any issues.

Why was it a good deal? I drove it for 3.5 years and sold it with 24K miles for $26K. Car was under warranty the entire time of my ownership so no additional costs to me.

Fun car BTW, but I still think my current S is the best car I've owned.
