New boxster owner!
 

Hi All:

I'm a new Boxster owner. Recently purchased a 2000 Boxster S silver on grey, loaded including litronics, with 4K miles.

I would like to do some mods including a rear spoiler, front mesh grill, etc...

I'm from the Pacific NW and would like to know where is a good Boxster forum to get information on such parts.

By the way, can I enhanced the foglights so that they look more white similar to the litronics? If so, what and where.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The box s already has a speed activated spoiler. If you can, just buy the litronics for $1,100. They are well worth the $$.

I already have litronic headlights. My car also has heated seats, CD player, Porsche crest, etc...

What are the easy mods? Some thoughts include
1) stainless steel mesh grill for the front bumper
2) Upgrade from 17 to 18 inch turbo wheel/tire

Where can I find the mesh grill?

Any other mods you suggest?

I keep seeing people shelling out 1800 for litronic lights. What makes that mod so great? Its just xenon lights right?

don't the litronics lights adjust downward when you take off quick.that's kinda cool...not 1800 cool but still cool.

i would just change to a "blue" bulbs for about 40 bucks. they put out that blinding white light.

Mark, I also have a silver 2000 Boxster S with all the options available. I can tell everyone that I will never in my life own a vehicle without Xenon HID lights. I may be biassed since I import xenon lights for a living but it's still a fact.

Anyways, please don't go ruin a beautiful car by adding a rear spoiler and making it "ricey" looking. Let a nice car stay nice and enjoy it for what it is. :)

Johnny, I think xenons should be the first thing to appear on any options list for the boxster. They illuminate the road a hell of alot better than the stock haligens that I have driven. They give you more bang for the buck on the box than any other option. FYI they were a $1,050 option on my box and I've seen places that sell them as low as $1,100. ****************, just to have my roll bar painted from the factory cost me $550. That's a lil pricey if you ask me. The xenons also do away with the unflattering amber turn signals and even have the nifty headlight sprtizers. I'd pay $3,000 for the xenons if I had to. The whiteish haligens are better than stock but they still don't come close to the performance of a real xenon bulb. I would expect a 50k car to come stock with xenons. Many 25k asian cars come with them stock.

Do either of you guys know about those HID bulbs I see all the time that sell for like 20-40 bucks? They claim to give that super white light, but I've also heard of overheating and melting. I assume that if they were truely any good, people would not pay the 1500-1800 to have litronic lights (disregarding the autoleveling)

I've seen some that claim to be plasma xenon bulbs. I'm not sure I like those anyway, they annoy me when someone with them is behind me, but I've not seen them from the driver side.

Do I know about them? I am one of the three largest manufacturers and importers of those bulbs to the US. Without going into specifics, take my word for it. On a Porsche do not go with anything less than Litronics!

It's not overheating. But you drive a Porsche, don't look for bargains! If you had a Civic it's a different story. Part of owning a luxury item is affording the maintenance that goes with it.

I laugh when our dealer customers get a schmuck who buys a Porsche or a new BMW or Mercedes and then complains at all the prices of parts and services. Some people have no business being in the cars they are in! Just because someone has $600 or so a month to burn does not mean they can afford their car.

The way I look at it is that leasing is a great tax benefit for a business owner or in some cases makes sense to an individual too. But, I don't think a person has any business being in a car that they can't afford to pay for in cash if they needed to. Ofcourse this is general and not implying anything here, only making a point.

You bought a Porsche, spend the money on the proper equipment and don't look for shortcuts.

Stryke is right. Buy cheap buy twice kinda thing. You will more satisfied with the xenon lights. I have xenon lights on mine, but I'm not sure if they are self-leveling. Are xenon and litronic the same? I thought they were.

Litronics is simply the Porsche name for the HID lights on the vehicle. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. Xenon is simply the type of gas used in the capsules to aid with ignition.

Back to the original question: can you swap out the foglights for a whiter light?

Yes you can. I would personally leave it alone as it will never match the HID perfectly.

Please note that the first photo is misleading as it is an HID photo and not the bulbs this seller is selling. This is a common practice on eBay. If you want, check out eBay seller "Snappie1". He is one of our distributors on the west coast and sells several thousand xenon bulbs per month. He has almost everything we carry.

well even if it is a true Xenon light that is displayed in the first pic note that the driving lights appear to be Xenon too...
I have the Litronics and the inner light for the fog/driving light does not look as close a match as the pic above does....
Not that I care to replace that specific bulb on my car since the Litronic combo on mine seems to look good enough, but the appearence of both being xenon looks good.

It is merely camera glare filling in the lens. The fog lights are off all together in that pic. The blue halogen bulbs will never have the intensity or color like the litronics. What you see there is camera effect along with fine computer manipulation. I have been in the automotive lighting business for a very long time and 3 years as one of North Americas leading importers. Chances are if you purchased an HID system or xenon bulbs in the last three years that it came through my company.
