I May Have Found the "Right" LED Fog Light Bulb

For years I have been trying to find the right LED fog light bulb. I have done the fog light DRL hack so they are on all the time. If you use the factory Halogen light you'll burn the lens. Most of the LEDs I have used were the wrong color; too blue, too white or too bright.

I recently bought a pair from a USA seller on eBay and they are (IMHO) perfect. They come close to matching the Xenon Headlights. After seeing how nice these are, and knowing that these lights do not last, I just ordered up another set to have in reserve.

The best I could do ....

Great ,helpful post. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Getting the color(white) correct and the wattage(15W) will avoid attention from CHP.
Now we need a list for all the other locations that benefit from LED upgrade bulbs ! Like the trunk.I am surprised Pelican don't offer an LED upgrade kit.

Thank you Chuck!!! I'm running the hack with the factory bulbs and don't want the lenses burnt. Very timely info!!

So no heat issues whatsoever? I'm not going to melt anything or burn up any wiring with these? No explosions? And they work as well in the fog as the OEM bulbs?

Thanks.

Thanks.

No heat at all and no issues with frying your Boxster's wires. As far as working in fog I can't help you there. I always considered fog lights as decorative. Not much fog where I live.

Looks like...

...you need to road trip to San Francisco and test them out in the fog! For scientific purposes, of course!

The reason this is such a good idea is:
An LED bulb uses 80% of the wattage to produce light, 20% as heat. A halogen bulb is the reverse- 80% is producing heat and only 20% is light.
I have used this source because of their excellent website and clear communication.

Thanks for the post. I'd LOVE to know how these are holding up a month or two from now.

Heat...

....I understand the properties of LED Vs. Halogen. My concern is not the heat emitted from the LED element, my concern is the heat generated by the circuitry in the base of the bulb overheating the connector.

A lot of these aftermarket LED retrofit bulbs have cooling fans and huge heat sinks in the base. They are there for a reason.

Thanks.

Agreed but it is only 15w.Not like the megwatt headlight kits the Ricers use.

Wow... I have never seen an LED that puts out that kind of heat. I have driven with these LEDs on for 30 minutes and the headlight lens was still cool to the touch. I had tried HIDs and Halogen lights and the lens was hot to the touch.

You and I both. I have little faith, that is why I bought a spare set.
