yest another engine number question(s)
I believe I am clear on any engine number beginning "M96/2x" where x goes from 0 to 4. What I am unclear on is "M96/0x". where x goes from "1" to ?.
I have seen "01" which I believe to be the 3.4L engine, but what year(s) But what about 02, 03,04 (which I have not heard of) and "05" which someone in this group reported. TIA |

Porsche's PET parts system has more information but the list is maybe 20 pages long (too long for here) For an engine with the following: M96/20AT65X65895 2.5 liter Boxster engine - 65X says the engine was manufactured in 1999 and was rebuilt at a later date (the "AT" in the sequence). |
M96/xx
I am reasonably clear on the last 8 characters of the engine serial number. I seek clarity on the first characters. "M96" or "M97" is obvious as is the "/" (which is sometimes reported as a "7" or a ".". It is the next few characters which appear to apply to engine displacement. I 'get' the '2x' series but wonder about the "0x" series. This is more than curiosity on my part as the years roll on, more Boxsters, especially gen 1, are getting different engines with their own special quirks.
" Porsche's PET parts system", I will look into this. thx. |
