Value of a 987.2 S Boxster 2009?

Been possibly thinking about selling my favorite toy. Can't seem to find a lot for sale sales to peg a value on. I'm in SoCal.

It's a 987.2 S 2009 with about 65k miles in pristine condition, clean title, stick, arctic silver.
Xenon, Bose sound, heated leather, PCM 3 navigation, bluetooth, no modifications.

The kicker is I do have a Carmax Maxcare transferrable warranty on it until 4/2018 or 75k miles. I imagine this might add some value to it?

From the very few listings I've found, it seems like they're listed up to $31,000 from dealers?? That seems way too high to me.

Ideas?

A pic or two I guess:

Well that is the right car. By that I mean it is the first Boxster without the IMS issue. If I was in the market this would be the one to get, IMHO.

I just paid $27K for almost the same car, 09S. (Early March) No NAV, Seal Grey, Sports Chrono and it has a small spot on the rear bumper. It had 25K on the ODO. It has +/-$9k worth of upgrades. Intake/ECU/exhaust and Bilsteins BSS'9s with newish Pirelli's P-Zeros. The seller was asking $27,5 for it in Indian Wells, CA.

I forgot to add this car has the PDK trans.

I'm in San Diego and I can only find two other 'S' models in that gen: 16k miles- $33k, 43k miles-$30k. There are quite a few non-S cars with similar mileage for $20-$25K.
So if you were to list at $27-28k, I would expect you to be right on the money

Asking Prices vs. Actual Selling prices - always interesting.
Check EBay Completed ,Sold Listings for Actual Sale prices.

As a semi-Wheeler Dealer, I've found the sweet spot for pricing a private sale car is 1/2 way between Clean Trade-In and Clean Retail in NADA. Then you adjust accordingly up or down depending on additional features (like a transferable warranty) and condition.

Your car in my neck of the woods comes out at $28.1 using my formula. Your value will probably come out a bit lower b/c there are more Porsches for sale in SoCal. Your warranty probably adds $1K.

But...
You have a desirable year (b/c of the 9A1 engine), model (S), color, and a very low production volume due to the recession. Supply and demand - for one of the few times in life you have both working in your favor. Why not start at $30K (or $29,950) and see how much interest you get? My dad liked to say "you can always come down in price, but you can't go up".

Nice car. A very desirable year and color with not many available. It should sell fairly quickly at $25k and if you are willing to deal with tire kickers for 30 days or so you may get $27k from the right buyer.

Take great pics with a real camera, write copy that sells the sizzle not the steak, advertise it in CL, PCA classifieds, and Cargurus. It will sell.

Carmax would probably give you $20k today, no muss, no fuss.

Thanks for the advice guys, very helpful.

I'll keep it short and just say $25K-$26K.

FlyPenFly 05-11-2017 07:44 AM

Hmmm interesting. Most people seem to indicate 29k final sale price from a negotiated starting point of 31k.

Nmbrsix 05-11-2017 08:26 AM

I'd say around $28k sale price. I'd start at $29,995 asking.
