California 356 Registry - North Meets South

Every year I go out to Paso Robles, California for a week of road bike riding with a group of friends. And there is always something car related taking place while we're there. In years past, the California Mille was there, and there have been vintage Chevy and vintage Ford events too. This year when we arrived the town was taken over by 356 Porsches of every variety. Turns out it was the Northern California and Southern California chapters of the 356 Registry's North Meets South event. Since we were riding on Saturday morning, we couldn't go to the actual show at the Warbirds museum, but we did go over to the Allegretto Winery Resort and check out all the 356's in the parking lot. This took place over a week ago. I would have posted the pictures sooner, but I couldn't get the pictures to post from my iPad. Now that I'm home I can from my laptop.

The dark blue 356 60 hard top coupe came all the way from New Zealand. My buddy and I spoke to a few of the owners and they were very friendly and proud of their cars.

If you look closely at the black one in the picture below, you can see it has 5 lug Fuchs wheels.

Very cool. I think there's a Boxster in one of those pics too.

Your car looks great to me, not a beater at all! I feel that I am on the same course with my Boxster, have owned it since 2003 and it may someday be a vintage car.

You're closer than New Zealand, ha ha :)! There were 356's from New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, Idaho and other places. A few were trailered but most were driven there.

What is it with 356's and those old Mobil Oil red horses and wings? Lots of the 356's in Paso Robles had metal ones attached to their rear bumpers. On the restored 356's, those emblems were either restored or reproductions, they were in the same great shape as the cars.

356 guy, it also looks like you have those aluminum wheels that are wider and have thicker center sections than the original steel wheels. Lots of the cars in Paso Robles had those too.

They are the wider 5 or 5.5" chrome wheels (Mexican?) painted silver. The thicker ones are the Technomagesium wheels.

Thanks for the explanation - those Technomagnesium ones looked like aftermarket aluminum to my untrained eye. Any idea what the significance of the winged Mobil Oil horse is to 356's?

I think the Mobil pegasus is just a throwback to the old days. They used that logo at gas stations and I'm guessing it was on race cars. I don't know if the current techno wheels are still mag alloy or aluminum. I'm guessing the latter now.
