Who wants to play "Name That Part"?

I found this on top of the engine, right behind the alternator. It looks like some type of retaining clip for something the size of a plastic vacuum line.
I didn't see an obvious place for it anywhere.

Ideas?

Looks like a clip to hold some kind of cover or plastic casing.
I would start looking for an empty hole somewhere near the fire wall or outer engine bay and then look for a pin there the opposite end would clip onto. Holding something else down.

Never seen it before. I don't think my 03 has one. Could it be a dipstick for the tail light fluid?

It kind of reminds me of a parking brake cable tether - something that keeps a parking brake cable from drooping down when it's passing over a large open area. I've seen something like that somewhere, I just can't remember where...

The big question is, whatever it is, how did it get on top of your engine? Did you recently have some servicing done?

Probably a $175 part. At least it doesn't look broken......

It's a 1978 American quarter.

PS we have that same counter top on our bar downstairs.

I've had a good look around in there and see nothing obvious. I guess I'll hang on to it, just in case.
